The show this week picks up right where it left off at the end of the Scarola-Danzig fight last week. Team Hughes is obviously elated after Mac Danzig pulls out the victory while Team Serra tries to console Joey Scarola, who takes the loss very hard. He repeatedly says he feels as though he's let the team down.
Later that night when the guys get back to the house, we learn that Team Serra members are keeping a bracket-style tally of the fights on one of the walls in the kitchen. Joey's name is crossed out on the bracket, which some of the fighters find offensive. This seems to underscore Joey's insecurity in the house after losing his first fight.
Back at the gym, Team Hughes gets to work. Hughes puts his team through a brutal workout seemingly trying to break them. No one breaks down, and Hughes is throughly pleased, stating that as a coach he'd never seen this type of practice before.
Later on, when Team Serra arrives for a workout, Serra and the rest of the team are surprised to to see that Joey hasn’t come to the practice. Serra explains to the team that he feels as though nerves got the best of Joey in his fight with Mac and that Joey quit. He explains that there was no way Joey could have been caught the way he was and that he put himself into the triangle choke because he wanted a way out of the fight.
When team Hughes comes back from practice they see Joey's name crossed of on the wall. They take offense and seem to come to Joey's aid on the issue. Mac actually writes his name back in on the wall and pulls Joey aside to try to encourage him to get through the loss.
Joey tells Mac that he's having a hard time being in the house especially after his first loss. He says more than once that he wants to leave the house and go home. Mac continues to tell Joey to stick it out and get through the six weeks, but Joey seems tentative.
“He’s a great guy, and the house needs him,” Mac tells the camera later. “And let’s face it, there’s a whole lot of idiots running around here.“
Serra gets wind of Joey's desire to leave the house and go home, so he stops by the house later to try to lift Joey's spirits. They have a good heart to heart, with Serra telling Joey how he got through his first loss and how all fighters have to get through it. Joey seems to calm down and asks if he can make a call to his girlfriend which Serra says he just can't do.
Next up is the fighter match up. This time it's Team Serra's turn to pick. Dorian, a colorful Muy Thai fighter from Team Hughes, drives himself crazy with anxiety about the possibility of being picked; and sure enough Serra picks Dorian to go up against Matt Arroyo, Serra's first pick.
